
NZ's Top Tech Leaders & Innovations Honoured at the 2025 New Zealand CIO Awards
The country's leading minds in technology and digital innovation were celebrated tonight at the 2025 NZ CIO Awards. The prestigious event, held at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre, recognised exceptional leadership, transformative projects, and impactful contributions across New Zealand’s technology sector. The winners were selected by a panel of expert judges, including Cathy O'Sullivan, Editorial Director at Foundry; Di Daniels, Education Specialist and 2024 Outstanding Contribution recipient; Divina Paredes, freelance writer; Ed Strafford, Independent Researcher and Consultant; Jane Kennelly, Director at Skills Consulting Group; Louise Francis, Country Manager for IDC; Richard Kay, CIO at the Department of Conservation; Paul Littlefair, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Kiwibank; Vaughan Robertson, Futurist; and Zoe Timbrell, Co-Founder and CEO of the Pam Fergusson Charitable Trust.

Datacom NZ CIO of the Year:
Alexandra Smart, Chief Technology Officer, Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Alexandra Smart was named NZ CIO of the Year for her leadership in a comprehensive transformation of Southern Cross Travel Insurance's (SCTI) core systems. The judges praised her as an "inspiring leader" whose vision and strategic execution have not only delivered measurable growth but also positioned the company for an ambitious new five-year strategy, with technology as a true driver of business success.
